Pincay sets record for wins
When Laffit
Pincay tied Bill Shoemaker's world record for most
victories by a jockey on Thursday, the jockeys at Hollywood Park
carried Pincay through the winner's circle. They did it
again yesterday, and then they popped the cork.
They opened bottles of champagne and sprayed it in the winner's
circle because Pincay rode Irish Nip to a 2 1/4-length victory in
the sixth race, overcoming a speed duel with another horse and
becoming the all-time leading jockey with 8,834 wins.
Shoemaker, who retired in 1989, rode 8,833 winners.
