Dear Domenic,

i just came back from a short trip to Italy with my family and we fell in love with gelato! we currently own an ice cream franchise, but now we are considering converting into a gelateria. after much searching for info on gelato i found your great website. i was wondering if you could answer some questions as you seem like one of the best resources available in the u.s.  first, I'd like to know what equipment is necessary to produce gelato from scratch? how much should i expect to spend in equipment to have a functioning gelateria as authentic as in Italy? second, can you direct me to any gelato shop owners in the U.S.? i can't find any in my area and I'd like to get an idea as to how a gelato store operates in the states. it's a pity that there aren't as many gelaterias as in Italy.
