FORT WORTH, Texas, May 5, 2003 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- American
Airlines is taking the wait out of air travel for millions of customers who use American's automated check-in options to"fly"through the airport with boarding pass in hand.

More than 30 million customers have taken advantage of American's Self-Service Check-In, OneStop Curbside Check-In and Flight Check-In on AA.com to simplify their travel experience -- at the airport, at the
office or at home. With its convenient suite of automated check-in tools, American, the airline that offers More Room Throughout Coach and flights to more destinations, also provides more options on the ground
to its passengers."More than 12 million customers have experienced the convenience of Self- Service to date with more than 1.5 million passengers using the machines to check in for flights each month,"said Mary McKee, managing director Airport Automation at American Airlines."Each month, we increase our usage by more than 15 percent. In fact, no other airline is growing its self-service usage base more aggressively than American."A distinct focus on increased customer service at airports has resulted in American's recent deployment of more than 700 Self-Service Check-In machines in more than 85 airports across the country -- more machines in more airports than any other carrier provides today. Self-Service Check-In allows travelers to get a boarding pass and select other personal preferences. Customers can check bags, select or change their seats, upgrade to a higher seat class, and stand by for an alternate flight -- all in one quick and convenient stop."We know that our customers' time is precious, so we've made customer convenience a priority at American. We're focusing our technology solutions on ways to streamline our customers' travel experience and minimize their time in the airport,"said John Samuel, vice president Customer Technology at American Airlines."Today, nearly half of all domestic American and American Eagle customers are taking advantage of our full suite of convenient check-in alternatives, reducing check-in times to as little as 45 seconds."Customers can also enjoy the convenience of OneStop Curbside Check-In to check bags and get a
boarding pass before they even enter the airport. More than 340 CurbsideCheck-In units are available at over 85 domestic airports.

The most recent check-in option for American customers is Flight Check-In on AA.com -- where online means no line. Customers traveling on domestic e-tickets can now print their boarding passes from one to 12
hours prior to their scheduled departure times and request certain upgrades -- all from the convenience of their homes, offices or wherever a computer with Internet access and a printer is available.

Plus, between now and June 30, 2003, customers can earn a one-time bonus of 500 AAdvantage miles when they check in and print their boarding passes online. From the AA.com home page, customers simply select
Reservations and then Flight Check-In from the easy-access menu. Visit aa.com/checkin for details."For me, these automated check-in tools mean that I am in control of my travel experience,"said Luke Fletcher, an
AAdvantage(R) member and frequent business traveler."I can pick my own seat, print my own boarding pass, even select an upgrade to first class -- with no waiting in line. I really understand the freedom of automated check-in when the first American employee I encounter on a trip is greeting me at the gate. For me, American really has taken the wait out of travel."About American Airlines
